Rama is a historic German brand that has become a household name across Europe for margarine and plant-based spreads. Originally introduced in 1924 by Jurgens, it later became a core part of the Unilever portfolio. The brand is well-known for its iconic "Rama girl" logo and its association with breakfast and baking traditions.
In 2018, Unilever sold its global spreads business to the American private equity firm KKR, which established the company Upfield. Since then, Rama has been managed by Upfield, which focuses on sustainable, plant-based nutrition. Production of Rama takes place across various locations throughout Europe to serve regional markets, primarily in Germany and neighboring countries.
Today, Rama continues to evolve with consumer trends, increasingly focusing on fully plant-based (vegan) recipes while maintaining the classic creamy texture it is known for. The product shown in the image, Rama 100% pflanzlich, reflects this shift toward animal-free ingredients and the addition of essential vitamins like B12.
