Tidal is a high-fidelity music streaming service that originated from the Norwegian company Aspiro. It was launched in 2014 with a focus on lossless audio quality and high-definition music videos, positioning itself as a premium alternative to other mainstream streaming platforms. The brand gained significant global recognition in 2015 when it was acquired by Project Panther Bidco, a company owned by Jay-Z, and relaunched with the backing of several high-profile recording artists.

In early 2021, the majority ownership of Tidal shifted to Square, Inc. (now known as Block, Inc.), a financial services and technology company founded by Jack Dorsey. Under Block's ownership, Tidal has integrated more financial and artist-centric tools into its ecosystem while maintaining its core identity as a provider of superior audio quality. The service is operated digitally and is available in dozens of countries worldwide, with its technical development and leadership split between Norway and the United States.
