Macleans is an established oral hygiene brand with a heritage dating back to the early 20th century in the United Kingdom. It was originally founded by Alex Maclean, a Scottish-born chemist who launched the product through his London-based laboratory. Over the decades, Macleans became one of the most recognizable toothpaste brands in the British Commonwealth markets, particularly in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

The brand passed through several corporate hands, notably being a core part of Beecham Group (which later became SmithKline Beecham). Today, it is part of the consumer healthcare portfolio that transitioned to Haleon following its demerger from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). While the product in the image still features the GSK logo, as of late 2022 and moving into 2026, the brand is under the ultimate ownership of Haleon, a global leader in consumer health.

Manufacturing of Macleans products occurs in multiple locations globaly to serve regional markets. For the European and UK markets, production often takes place in facilities in the United Kingdom or Continental Europe, whereas Australian and New Zealand supplies are often sourced from regional manufacturing hubs in Asia or Oceania.
