Belkin is a globally recognized manufacturer of consumer electronics that specializes in connectivity devices. Founded in 1983 in a garage in Southern California by Chet Pipkin, the brand initially gained fame by producing cables for early personal computers like the Apple IIc. Over the decades, it expanded into networking hardware (routers), surge protectors, and mobile accessories, eventually becoming a household name in the tech industry.
In 2013, Belkin significantly grew its portfolio by acquiring Linksys, the renowned home networking brand, from Cisco. However, the most pivotal change in corporate structure occurred in 2018 when Belkin International, including its sub-brands Linksys and Wemo, was acquired by Foxconn Interconnect Technology (FIT), a subsidiary of the Taiwanese giant Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (Foxconn).
Today, while the brand maintains its creative and design headquarters in Playa Vista, California, the vast majority of its manufacturing takes place in Asia, specifically within Foxconn's extensive production facilities in China and Vietnam. This strategic ownership allows Belkin to leverage world-class manufacturing scale while maintaining its American-born design identity.
