Connétable is one of the world's oldest cannery brands, established in Douarnenez, Brittany, which is widely considered the cradle of the French canning industry. The brand is renowned for its premium quality seafood, particularly its 'Sans Arêtes' (boneless) sardines, which are meticulously prepared and preserved in high-quality extra virgin olive oil.
While the brand maintains a strong heritage link to its French roots and continues to operate production facilities in France, it has expanded its manufacturing footprint to include coastal areas in Morocco to ensure a steady supply of fresh fish. Despite these international operations, the brand's core identity remains deeply attached to Breton maritime traditions and strict European quality standards.
The brand is currently owned by the Chancerelle family business, Maison Chancerelle. Founded in 1853, it remains an independent, family-run enterprise that has pioneered several industry techniques, including the development of the canned sardine as a global staple. Today, they focus on sustainable fishing practices and maintaining the traditional craftsmanship that has defined the brand for over 170 years.
