Becel is a well-known brand of margarine and plant-based spreads, originally developed by Unilever in the 1960s with a focus on heart health. The name itself is derived from the acronym 'BCL' (Blood Cholesterol Lowering).

In 2018, Unilever sold its entire spreads division to the private equity firm KKR, which established Upfield as the new parent company. More recently, Upfield has rebranded its corporate identity to Flora Food Group.

While the brand has its roots in the Netherlands, Becel products are produced in various facilities across Europe and are marketed under sister names like Flora in the UK and Ireland or ProActiv in other regions. It remains a market leader in the plant-based butter alternative category.
