Polarbröd Vetekaka

Polarbröd is one of Sweden's most iconic bread brands, founded in the small town of Älvsbyn in Norrbotten. The brand is famous for its semi-soft flatbreads, known as 'renklämmor' or 'polarkakor,' which have been a staple in Swedish households for generations. The recipe for their signature flatbread dates back to the early 20th century, originating in the family bakery of the Nilsson family.

Manufacturing primarily takes place in Northern Sweden, with major bakeries located in Älvsbyn and Bredbyn. Despite a catastrophic fire in 2020 that destroyed their main production facility, the company has successfully rebuilt a state-of-the-art bakery in the same location, maintaining its commitment to regional production and sustainable methods, including the use of wind power.

Polarbröd remains a family-owned business, currently under the ownership of Polarbröd AB, which is controlled by the fifth generation of the Nilsson family. This independence is a point of pride for the brand, allowing it to maintain its Swedish heritage and local identity without being absorbed by larger international food conglomerates.
