Amazon EBS (Elastic Block Store)

Amazon EBS (Elastic Block Store) is a high-performance block-storage service designed for use with Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). It was originally developed by Amazon Web Services in the United States and launched in 2008 to provide persistence for virtualized cloud data.

Today, the service is managed and delivered via Amazon's global network of data centers. While the brand and technology originate from the United States, the physical infrastructure—the servers and drives—are manufactured by various hardware partners globally and deployed in Amazon regions worldwide. As a core component of the AWS ecosystem, it remains under the ultimate ownership of Amazon.com, Inc.
