Originally, the SPECIFIC brand was developed in Denmark by the company Nordisk Droge & Kemikalie (later known as NDK and Durascan). The brand has maintainted a strong presence in the Danish market, with a significant portion of its production historically and currently taking place in its dedicated manufacturing plant in Esbjerg, Denmark.

In 2024, Dechra Pharmaceuticals PLC was acquired by EQT and Luxinva (a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority), moving it from a public listing to private ownership. Despite this shift in ownership, the brand continues to focus on scientific veterinary nutrition with international distribution across Europe and beyond.
