Atari is one of the most iconic names in the history of interactive entertainment, originally founded in 1972 in Sunnyvale, California, by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney. The brand pioneered the video game industry with the success of Pong and the Atari 2600 console, which brought arcade-quality gaming into the home for the first time.

Over the decades, the Atari brand has undergone several ownership changes as the industry evolved. After the video game crash of 1983, the original company was split, and the brand passed through various hands including Hasbro Interactive. Today, the modern Atari is owned by Atari SA (formerly Infogrames Entertainment), a French holding company that consolidated the brand and shifted its focus toward modern retro-gaming consoles, mobile gaming, and blockchain initiatives.

While Atari products were originally manufactured in American factories during the 1970s and early 1980s, modern Atari hardware, such as the Atari VCS (2020) and newer legacy editions, are primarily manufactured in China. The brand continues to leverage its extensive library of classic intellectual properties to maintain a presence in the global gaming market.
