Gevalia is a prominent coffee brand with roots dating back to 1853 in Gävle, Sweden, where it was founded by Victor Theodor Engwall. Since its inception, the brand has become synonymous with Swedish coffee culture, specifically known for its high-quality Arabica beans. Historically, Engwall & Co. operated the brand until it was acquired by General Foods in 1971.
Today, the brand ownership is split globally. In Europe, Gevalia is owned and operated by JDE Peet's, a Dutch company formed through the merger of D.E Master Blenders 1753 and the coffee division of Mondelez International. The coffee sold in Sweden is typically roasted and packaged at the company's large-scale production facility in Gävle, maintaining its traditional geographic connection. Meanwhile, in North America, the brand rights are held by the Kraft Heinz Company.
