BSA, or Birmingham Small Arms Company, is a brand with deep historical roots dating back to the mid-19th century in the United Kingdom. Originally established as a firearms manufacturer by a group of gunsmiths in Birmingham, the company evolved into a diverse industrial powerhouse, eventually becoming the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer during the 1950s. Iconic models like the Gold Star and the Rocket 3 cemented its reputation for engineering excellence and British performance.
Following financial difficulties and a subsequent liquidation in the early 1970s, the brand changed hands multiple times before being revitalized by Classic Legends Private Limited, a company under the Mahindra Group umbrella. In 2021, the brand was officially relaunched with the debut of the new Gold Star 650. This modern iteration of BSA combines heritage-focused design from the UK with the large-scale manufacturing capabilities and technological resources of India.
Today, BSA is positioned as a classic heritage brand with a global outlook. While the engineering and design concepts often originate from the Small Heath area of Birmingham, the physical assembly and heavy manufacturing are primarily handled in Pithampur, India. This synergy allows the brand to maintain its authentic British identity while leveraging efficient global supply chains and modern production standards.
