F-Droid

F-Droid is a community-maintained software repository for Android, serving as an alternative to the Google Play Store. It was founded in 2010 by Ciaran Gultnieks and is unique because it exclusively hosts Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). The platform is built on the principles of transparency and user privacy, ensuring that applications do not contain hidden tracking or proprietary bloatware.

As a non-profit, volunteer-driven project, F-Droid is not owned by a commercial corporation. It is managed by the F-Droid Data and the F-Droid Limited legal entities, supported by donations and contributions from developers worldwide. The software is developed and maintained across multiple countries by a global community of contributors, making it a truly international open-source initiative.
