Tatonka is a renowned German outdoor brand founded in 1993, headquartered in Dasing, Bavaria. The brand is famous for its bison logo, a symbol that represents strength and harmony with nature. Tatonka is a family-run business that evolved from the climbing and mountain sports company Mountain Sport GmbH.
A unique aspect of Tatonka is its commitment to transparent and fair production. Unlike many competitors, Tatonka owns and operates its own production facilities in Vietnam through its subsidiary, Mountech Co. Ltd. Since 2011, the company has operated the 'Open Factory' program, allowing consumers and visitors to inspect the manufacturing facility in Ho Chi Minh City on a weekly basis to see the working conditions and social standards firsthand. The factory is SA8000 certified, ensuring ethical labor practices.
Today, Tatonka remains under the ownership of the original founding family (the Schechinger family). It has established itself as a global leader in high-quality trekking equipment, stainless steel camping cookware, and innovative carrying systems like the V2 system found in their popular Yukon series.
