Ballast Point Brewing Company is an iconic American craft brewery that played a pivotal role in the West Coast craft beer movement. Founded in 1996 by Jack White in San Diego, California, the company gained global fame for its flagship Sculpin IPA and its maritime-themed branding. The brand famously transition from a local craft favorite to a major industry player after being acquired for $1 billion in 2015 by the beverage giant Constellation Brands.

In a significant turn for the industry, the brand returned to local, independent status in early 2020. Constellation Brands sold the brewery to Kings & Convicts Brewing Co., a small independent craft brewery based in Highwood, Illinois. This move was celebrated by craft beer enthusiasts as it returned the brand to a smaller, more focused management structure after years of corporate ownership.

Today, Ballast Point continues to operate its primary production facilities and tasting rooms in San Diego while maintaining a distribution network across North America and select international markets. Its manufacturing remains centered in California, preserving the southern California identity that originally defined the brand.
