Founded in London in 2009, it was the first copper-pot distillery to open in the city for nearly 200 years, breaking a long-standing legal barrier in the United Kingdom. The brand is celebrated for its traditional artisanal approach, producing spirits in small batches using classical copper stills nicknamed Prudence, Patience, and Constance.

While the brand maintains its artisanal heritage and continues to manufacture its flagship gin in London, its ownership transitioned to a global scale in 2016. Sipsmith was acquired by the multinational spirits giant Suntory Global Spirits (formerly Beam Suntory), which has helped expand its distribution worldwide. Despite the change in corporate ownership, the brand remains synonymous with the craft movement and British distilling excellence.
