Milka is one of Europe's most recognizable chocolate brands, famous for its lilac-colored packaging and the 'Milka cow.' The brand was originally created in Switzerland in 1901 by Philippe Suchard, whose name is synonymous with the early history of chocolate manufacturing in the region. The name 'Milka' is a portmanteau of the German words for its primary ingredients: Milch (milk) and Kakao (cocoa).

Today, while the brand remains deeply tied to its Alpine heritage and uses milk sourced from the Alps, production has expanded significantly across Europe to meet global demand. Large-scale manufacturing facilities are located in Germany, Austria, and Poland, among other countries. Since 2012, Milka has been part of the Mondelēz International portfolio, following the spin-off of Kraft Foods' snack division. It continues to be marketed as a premium yet accessible Alpine milk chocolate worldwide.
