Fosavance (alendronate sodium/colecalciferol)

Fosavance is a prescription medication used primarily to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis. It combines alendronic acid, a bisphosphonate that prevents bone loss, with vitamin D3 (colecalciferol) to ensure sufficient vitamin levels for bone health. The brand was originally developed and launched by the American pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co., Inc. (known as MSD outside the U.S. and Canada).

Manufacturing of Fosavance occurs across several global sites to ensure supply to international markets, including facilities in Europe and North America. In recent years, ownership of the brand has transitioned. In 2021, Merck & Co. spun off its legacy brands, women's health branch, and biosimilars business into a new independent, publicly traded company called Organon & Co. As a result, Fosavance is now overseen and distributed by Organon on a global scale, though it remains a staple in the osteoporosis therapeutic category.
