Ribena is a deeply historic British brand, originally established in 1938 by the company H.W. Carter & Co. It was famously developed as a blackcurrant cordial rich in Vitamin C to supplement the British diet during World War II when citrus fruits were scarce. Over the decades, the brand expanded from its signature blackcurrant syrup into various ready-to-drink fruit blends, including the Pineapple & Passion Fruit variety pictured.

The brand has undergone several corporate ownership changes throughout its history. It was a staple of the Beecham Group and later GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) for many years. In 2013, GSK sold Ribena along with the Lucozade brand to the Japanese beverage giant Suntory. Today, it is managed under the Suntory Beverage & Food division. While it remains a quintessentially British brand with major production facilities in the UK (notably Coleford in the Forest of Dean), its ultimate corporate ownership resides with Suntory Holdings, headquartered in Japan.
