Côte d’Or is a hallmark of Belgian chocolate heritage, renowned for its rich intensity and iconic elephant logo. Founded in 1883 by Charles Neuhaus, the brand was named after the 'Gold Coast' (now Ghana), the primary source of its cocoa beans. This premium chocolate brand has evolved from a local craft to a global symbol of high-quality dark and milk chocolate.
While the brand maintains its deep roots in Belgian chocolate-making traditions, its ownership has transitioned through several major food conglomerates over the decades. Originally an independent company, it was acquired by Jacobs Suchard in the 1980s, which later became part of Kraft Foods. Today, Côte d’Or is owned by Mondelēz International, a world leader in snacking and confectionery headquartered in the United States. Despite its American corporate ownership, much of the production remains centered in Belgium to preserve its authentic craftsmanship.
