Channel 5 Television

Channel 5 is a major British terrestrial television network that launched on March 30, 1997. It was the UK's fifth and final national terrestrial analogue network, following the established channels of the BBC, ITV, and Channel 4. Throughout its history, the channel has undergone several rebrands, including a period where it was simply known as 'Five,' before returning to its original numeric identity.

The channel broadcasts a wide range of content produced primarily within the United Kingdom, including domestic news, documentaries, reality television, and soap operas. While its headquarters and primary broadcasting infrastructure are located in London, it is now part of a major international media conglomerate, ensuring its presence across various digital and streaming platforms globally.

Originally founded by a consortium including the RTL Group, the channel has changed ownership several times. It was acquired by Northern & Shell in 2010 before being sold to Viacom in 2014. Following the merger of Viacom and CBS, the channel is now under the ultimate ownership of Paramount Global, maintaining its status as a cornerstone of British broadcasting under an American parent company.
