The Mariskooli (Maribowl) is one of Finland's most iconic pieces of glassware, representing a long-standing collaboration between two legendary Finnish design brands: Iittala and Marimekko. While the design is often attributed to Marimekko's founder Armi Ratia in the 1960s, it actually draws inspiration from antique glassware shapes found in the archives of the Iittala and Nuutajärvi glassworks. The product became a staple of Finnish homes after Marimekko popularized the design through their catalog.
Today, Iittala produces the bowl at the Iittala Glass Factory in Finland. Iittala is currently part of the Fiskars Group, a major Finnish conglomerate known for its high-quality household brands. The Mariskooli remains a popular collectible item, produced in a wide variety of colors over the decades, and is frequently used as a serving dish for desserts, candies, or simply as a decorative centerpiece.
