Somac Control is a widely used over-the-counter medication containing pantoprazole, primarily used for the short-term treatment of reflux symptoms like heartburn. The brand Somac was originally developed and launched by the German pharmaceutical company Byk Gulden, which later became part of Altana Pharma.
In 2007, Altana's pharmaceutical division was acquired by Nycomed, which was subsequently bought by the Japanese global pharmaceutical leader, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company, in 2011. Since 2026 and into the foreseeable future, the brand remains part of Takeda's extensive GI (gastrointestinal) portfolio. Manufacturing for the European market, including Norway, is typically concentrated in advanced pharmaceutical facilities in Germany to ensure strict quality standards.
