Wettex is an iconic Swedish invention created in 1949 by engineer Curt Lindquist, who developed a highly absorbent sponge cloth made from natural cellulose and cotton. The brand name itself is a portmanteau of "wet" and "textile."
Historically, the product has been manufactured in Norrköping, Sweden, maintaining its heritage as a local innovation even through changes in corporate ownership. Today, the brand is part of the Vileda product range, which is owned by the Freudenberg Group, a German global technology group. Wettex remains a household staple in Sweden and globally due to its 100% biodegradable and compostable properties.
