Ota Solgryn oats

OTA Solgryn is one of Denmark's most iconic and historic breakfast cereal brands, specializing in toasted rolled oats. The brand's history dates back to 1898 when it was founded under the name 'Avena' in Maribo, Denmark. It was the first company to produce rolled oats locally for the Danish market, eventually changing its name to OTA in 1915 following a national naming competition.

Throughout the 20th century, the brand underwent several changes in ownership. In 1930, it was acquired by the American company Quaker Oats, which later became part of PepsiCo. For nearly 30 years, during the late 20th and early 21st centuries, production was moved abroad to the United Kingdom. However, in September 2019, the brand was acquired by the Danish food group Crispy Food Nordic (part of the KOFF Group), bringing it back under Danish ownership.

Today, production has returned to the historic plant in Nakskov, Denmark, ensuring that the product maintains its traditional 'core-roasted' (kerneristede) flavor which is a hallmark of the brand. This manufacturing process uses Nordic oats to produce the characteristic nutty taste that has made Solgryn a staple of Scandinavian breakfast tables for over a century.
