Strepsils is a world-renowned brand of throat lozenges, first introduced in 1958. It was originally developed by the British company Boots the Chemists. The brand became famous for its antiseptic ingredients, amylmetacresol and dichlorobenzyl alcohol, which help combat throat infections. This specific version also contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic used to numb the throat for pain relief.
Today, Strepsils is owned by Reckitt (formerly Reckitt Benckiser), a British multinational consumer goods company. While the brand was born in Nottingham, England, manufacturing now takes place in several locations worldwide to serve global markets, though much of the European supply remains tied to its British roots. Reckitt manages Strepsils as part of its health portfolio, alongside other major brands like Mucinex and Durex.
