Ron Abuelo is a premium rum brand with deep roots in Panama. The story began in 1908 when Don José Varela Blanco, a young Spanish immigrant, established the first sugar mill in the town of Pesé, Panama. In 1936, the distillery began producing spirits from sugar cane juice, laying the foundation for what would become the Ron Abuelo brand.

The 12 Años expression is a sophisticated dark rum aged in hand-selected American oak barrels. The entire production process, from the cultivation of estate-grown sugar cane to fermentation, distillation, and aging, takes place in Panama. This vertical integration allows for meticulous quality control and a profile that reflects the unique Panamanian terroir.

The brand remains under the ownership of Varela Hermanos S.A., a family-owned company currently led by the third generation of the Varela family. They are one of the most prominent spirits producers in Central America, maintaining their headquarters in Panama City while exporting their range of aged rums to international markets worldwide.
