Kamenitza Beer

Kamenitza is one of the oldest and most established beer brands in Bulgaria. Known primarily for its distinct Bulgarian heritage, it was founded in 1881 by three Swiss entrepreneurs—Rudolf Frick, Friedrich Sulzer, and Christian Bomanti—in the city of Plovdiv. The brand quickly grew into a national icon, becoming the most popular beer in the country for decades.

Over the years, the brewery underwent significant transformations, moving from a private enterprise to state ownership during the socialist era, and eventually back to private hands. Its manufacturing remains centered in Bulgaria, with major operations historically occurring in Plovdiv and Haskovo. Through its long history, the brand has been recognized for its light lager and specialty brews, maintaining a dominant position in the Balkan market.

Today, Kamenitza is owned by the global brewing giant Molson Coors Beverage Company. Following a series of acquisitions involving Interbrew, InBev, and StarBev, the brand was integrated into the Molson Coors portfolio after they acquired StarBev in 2012. This ownership provides the brand with international distribution networks and modern brewing technologies while keeping its production and cultural presence rooted in Bulgaria.
