The Instant Pot is a brand of electric multicookers and other kitchen appliances. The brand was originally created by Robert Wang and colleagues at Double Insight Inc. in Ottawa, Canada, around 2010. It quickly became a cult favorite among home cooks for its ability to combine multiple kitchen functions, such as pressure cooking, slow cooking, and rice cooking, into a single device.
In 2019, Instant Brands (formerly Double Insight) merged with Corelle Brands, creating a large kitchenware conglomerate. In mid-2023, Instant Brands filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US and Canada. As part of the restructuring process, the Instant Pot brand and business assets were acquired in early 2024 by Centre Lane Partners, a private equity firm, which now serves as the ultimate owner. Most manufacturing for Instant Pot products is carried out by specialized electronics manufacturers located in China.
