Carambar is an iconic French candy brand, famous for its chewy caramel snacks and the jokes printed on the inside of every wrapper. The brand was originally created in 1954 at the Delespaul-Havez factory in Marcq-en-Barœul, France. According to legend, the long, rectangular shape was a result of a machine malfunction that stretched the candy, which eventually gave the brand its name—a portmanteau of "caramel" and "barre."

For many years, the brand was owned by international conglomerates including Cadbury and later Mondelēz International. However, in 2017, the brand returned to French ownership. It is now owned by the investment group Eurazeo under the company banner Carambar & Co. This company was formed specifically to revitalize classic candy brands like Poulain, Krema, and Terry's. Today, Carambar is still primarily manufactured in its historic home of France, maintaining its status as a staple of French culture across generations.
