Univision is the leading Spanish-language media network in the United States, originally founded to serve the growing Hispanic population. Its roots date back to 1955 with the establishment of KCOR-TV in San Antonio, Texas, by Raoul A. Cortez. It later evolved into the Spanish International Network (SIN) before being rebranded as Univision in 1987. The brand has been a pioneer in Hispanic broadcasting, introducing satellite-connected affiliate stations and becoming a dominant force in news, sports, and telenovela programming.
In 2021, a landmark merger between the U.S.-based Univision and the Mexican media giant Televisa was announced, resulting in the formation of TelevisaUnivision. This strategic combination brought together the most extensive libraries of Spanish-language content in the world under one corporate umbrella. Today, the network continues to produce its core programming primarily in the United States and Mexico, reaching millions of viewers across broadcast, cable, and digital streaming platforms like ViX.
