Edmonds is one of New Zealand's most iconic heritage brands, famously known for the 'Edmonds Cookery Book' and its baking ingredients. The brand was established in 1879 by Thomas John Edmonds in Christchurch, New Zealand, after he began selling his own baking powder formulation out of a small shop. Its slogan, 'Sure to Rise', has since become a staple phrase in households across the country.

While the brand is deeply rooted in New Zealands's culinary history, the manufacturing of many of its leading products, including its baking powder, has moved. Most Edmonds products are now manufactured in Australia. This shift followed the acquisition of the brand by multinational food conglomerates, moving production away from its original Christchurch site which was eventually demolished.

Today, Edmonds is owned by Goodman Fielder, a massive food company operating across Australasia. Goodman Fielder itself is no longer a local entity; it is a subsidiary of a massive international partnership. The ultimate ownership lies with Wilmar International, based in Singapore, and First Pacific, based in Hong Kong, marking a significant transition from a local family-run shop to a part of a global food distribution network.
