The Mercedes-Benz W124 is a highly influential range of executive cars manufactured by the German automaker Mercedes-Benz between 1984 and 1997. Often regarded as one of the most over-engineered and durable vehicles ever produced, the W124 was the first series to officially carry the 'E-Class' designation during its mid-cycle facelift in the early 1990s.
The brand's origin traces back to the very invention of the automobile by Karl Benz in 1886. The Mercedes-Benz brand itself was born from the 1926 merger of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft and Benz & Cie. Today, the brand is owned by Mercedes-Benz Group AG, a global leader in premium and luxury automobiles. While the W124 was primarily produced in Sindelfingen and Bremen, Germany, it was also assembled in various other countries including India, South Africa, and Poland to serve regional markets.
