Soltan is a well-established sun protection brand originally developed by the British health and beauty retailer Boots. Launched in 1939, it was the first suncare brand to offer a star rating system for UVA protection, a standard that has since been widely adopted across the industry. The products are designed to provide comprehensive defence against both burning (UVB) and premature skin aging (UVA).
Manufacturing for Soltan primarily takes place in the United Kingdom, often at Boots' extensive manufacturing facilities in Nottingham (BCM). While the brand remains synonymous with the British high street, its ownership transitioned to Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) following the 2014 merger between the American pharmacy giant Walgreens and Switzerland-based Alliance Boots. Today, the brand is managed as a key private label within the WBA Global Brands portfolio, maintaining its heritage as a trusted UK skincare staple while benefiting from a global distribution network.
