The brand has undergone significant ownership changes. In 2017, the core internet business was acquired by Verizon Communications, which combined it with AOL to form a division later known as Verizon Media. However, in September 2021, Verizon sold 90% of the division to the private equity firm Apollo Global Management. Today, Yahoo! operates as an independent company focusing on its massive media portal, finance tools, and advertising technology, while continuing to serve millions of users worldwide from its headquarters in Silicon Valley.
