Halifax is a major British financial institution that operates as a trading division of Bank of Scotland, which is a subsidiary of the Lloyds Banking Group. Originally founded in 1853 as the Halifax Permanent Benefit Building and Investment Society in Halifax, West Yorkshire, it evolved from a local building society into one of the UK’s largest providers of residential mortgages and savings accounts.

Following its demutualization in 1997, it became Halifax plc. In 2001, it merged with the Bank of Scotland to form HBOS. During the financial crisis of 2008, HBOS was acquired by Lloyds TSB, resulting in the creation of the Lloyds Banking Group. Today, Halifax remains a prominent high-street brand across the UK, though its manufacturing of services (operations and data processing) occurs primarily within the United Kingdom under the parent group's infrastructure.
