Originally founded in Australia by Sorbent Paper Pty Ltd, the brand went through various ownership changes over the decades, notably belonging to SCA (Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget) for a period. In 2010, the brand was acquired by Solaris Paper, which is part of the Sinar Mas Group.

Today, Sorbent products sold in Australia are primarily manufactured domestically to support local industry. The brand is managed by Sorbent Paper Co, a subsidiary of the global conglomerate Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), which is headquartered in Indonesia. Use of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified fibers is a key part of their modern production standards.
