Mövenpick began as a Swiss restaurant brand founded by Ueli Prager in 1948, known for its premium ice cream and gourmet coffee. Over the decades, the brand has evolved into a global symbol of Swiss culinary quality, expanding its reach from restaurants into high-end retail food products and luxury hospitality.
The ownership of the brand is currently split between different industrial giants depending on the sector. The hotel business is owned by the French hospitality group Accor, while the rights to the consumer goods and packaging (such as jam and dairy) are largely managed by the Swiss corporation Mövenpick Holding. Notably, the ice cream division was sold to Nestlé and is now part of Froneri, a joint venture between Nestlé and PAI Partners. Manufacturing takes place in several countries, including Switzerland and Germany, to serve international markets while maintaining strict Swiss quality standards.
