Feltrinelli is a cornerstone of the Italian cultural and publishing landscape. Founded in 1954 by Giangiacomo Feltrinelli in Milan, the brand began as a radical publishing house that famously defied international censorship to publish seminal works such as Boris Pasternak's 'Doctor Zhivago' and Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa's 'The Leopard'.

Today, the Feltrinelli Group (Gruppo Feltrinelli) operates as a vertically integrated cultural entity. It encompasses the publishing house (Effe 2005 Gruppo Feltrinelli S.p.A.), one of the largest bookstore chains in Italy (laFeltrinelli), and online retail platforms. While the retail locations are strictly based in Italy, the physical books are primarily manufactured and printed within the country, maintaining a strong European supply chain and cultural heritage. The brand remains under the control of the Feltrinelli family through their holding company.
