SunPower Solar Panel

SunPower is a globally recognized brand in the solar energy sector, known for its high-efficiency solar cells and panels. Founded in 1985 in the Silicon Valley, California, it has undergone significant structural changes in recent years. In 2020, SunPower spun off its manufacturing operations into a new company called Maxeon Solar Technologies, while SunPower Corporation focused primarily on residential and commercial storage and energy services in the North American market.

While the SunPower brand name remains iconic, its ownership and distribution involve a complex partnership between Maxeon (the manufacturer) and various corporate entities. Following a series of financial shifts in 2024 and 2025, Maxeon Solar Technologies—which remains the primary manufacturer of SunPower-branded panels—is largely owned by the Chinese firm TCL Zhonghuan (TZE). Consequently, while the brand's innovation originated in the United States, the ultimate corporate oversight and production infrastructure now span across multinational lines including heavy investment from China.
