Maarud is an iconic Norwegian brand with a history dating back to 1936. The term 'Potetgull' (Potato Gold) was actually trademarked by Maarud in Norway, becoming synonymous with high-quality potato chips across the country. The brand originated at the Maarud farm in Sør-Odal, where Thomas Stang first began industrial production of snacks.
Today, Maarud remains a market leader in the Norwegian snack industry. The production is primarily centered at their facility in Disenå, Norway, utilizing locally sourced potatoes to maintain the traditional taste and crunch that built the brand's reputation over nearly a century.
While Maarud began as a family-owned venture, it has undergone several ownership changes. It was part of Kraft Foods and later Intersnack. Since 2014, the brand has been integrated into the Estrella Maarud Group, which is owned by the German-based Intersnack Group. This parent company is one of the largest snack producers in Europe, providing Maarud with extensive distribution networks and research capabilities while maintaining its Norwegian heritage.
