Santa Maria is one of the leading spice brands in the Nordic and Baltic regions. The brand traces its roots back to a small spice shop opened in Gothenburg, Sweden, in the early 20th century. Over decades, it transformed from a local store into the prominent brand 'Santa Maria' in 2001, focusing on premium spices and international food concepts like Tex Mex.
While the peppercorns are sourced globally from regions like Vietnam, India, and Brazil, the processing, packaging, and quality control are centralized in Northern Europe. Historically, much of the production took place in Sweden, but in recent years, a significant portion of spice production has been moved to a state-of-the-art facility in Saue, Estonia.
Today, Santa Maria is a key part of the Paulig Group, a Finnish family-owned food and beverage company founded in 1876. Paulig acquired the brand to expand its portfolio in the spice and world foods category, and it continues to manage the brand's global distribution from its headquarters in Helsinki.
