illy coffee is a world-renowned Italian brand founded in 1933 in Trieste by Francesco Illy. The brand is famous for its high-quality 100% Arabica blends and its distinctive pressurized tin packaging which preserves the aroma. To this day, the primary manufacturing facilities remain in Trieste, Italy, where the coffee is roasted, ground, and packaged for global distribution.

The Illy family remains deeply involved in the brand. While the company traditionally remained entirely family-owned, in 2021, the equity firm Rhône Capital acquired a minority stake (20%) to accelerate international growth, especially in the US and Asia. As of 2026, the company continues to be controlled by the Illy family through their holding company, illycaffè S.p.A., maintaining its status as an iconic flag-bearer for Italian coffee culture.
