The brand was founded in 1932 by Ettore Riccardi in Cremona, Italy. According to brand lore, the name was inspired by a customer who described a cake made with the powder as being so soft it seemed made by angels. In 1990, the brand was acquired by Cameo S.p.A., which is the Italian subsidiary of the German multinational Dr. Oetker.
