Paterson's is a historic Scottish brand synonymous with traditional baking. The brand was founded in 1895 when John and Jane Paterson opened their home-based bakery in Rutherglen, Scotland. Over more than a century, it has grown from a local family business into one of the United Kingdom's most recognized shortbread brands, particularly known for its 'Royal Edinburgh' line which features iconic Scottish imagery.

While the brand remains deeply rooted in its Scottish heritage, its ownership has transitioned to larger corporate entities to facilitate global distribution. Today, Paterson's is part of the Burton’s Biscuit Company portfolio. Burton's itself was acquired by the Ferrero-related company, CTH Invest, a move that places the brand under the ultimate stewardship of the Ferrero Group, a global leader in the confectionery market headquartered in Luxembourg. Despite these changes in high-level ownership, the production remains centralized in Scotland to maintain the authentic quality associated with the product's origin.
