Google was originally founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were Ph.D. students at Stanford University in California. What began as a research project for a highly efficient search engine quickly evolved into one of the world's most influential technology companies. The brand's origin is deeply rooted in the Silicon Valley ecosystem, specifically in Menlo Park and later Mountain View.
While Google is primarily a digital service provider, its physical infrastructure consists of massive data centers distributed globally to ensure low latency and redundancy. Additionally, Google's hardware products—such as Pixel phones and Nest devices—are designed in the United States and manufactured through a complex global supply chain, primarily in East Asia. In 2015, Google underwent a major corporate restructuring, becoming a subsidiary of a newly created holding company called Alphabet Inc.
Today, Alphabet Inc. remains the ultimate owner of Google. Headquartered in Mountain View, California, Alphabet oversees a diverse portfolio of 'Other Bets' alongside Google's core search, advertising, and cloud businesses. The brand operates internationally through various local subsidiaries to manage regional sales, support, and compliance with local regulations.
