Wattie's is one of New Zealand's most iconic food brands, founded by Sir James Wattie in 1934 in Hastings, Hawke's Bay. Traditionally, the brand is synonymous with high-quality canned goods and frozen foods, deeply rooted in the agricultural heritage of the Hawke's Bay region.
The brand's ownership has changed hands through major global acquisitions over the decades. In 1992, it was acquired by the H.J. Heinz Company, which subsequently merged with Kraft Foods in 2015 to form the Kraft Heinz Company. Today, Wattie's continues to operate as a core part of the Kraft Heinz portfolio, maintaining its historical production facilities in New Zealand while being managed under a global corporate structure based in Chicago.
