Mahindra Thar

The Mahindra Thar is a compact, four-wheel-drive off-road SUV produced by the Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra. First launched in 2010, the Thar was designed as a spiritual successor to the Mahindra MM540, a vehicle that itself was derived from the iconic Jeep legacy through a historic partnership. The vehicle has since become a cult classic in India, known for its rugged capabilities and distinct heritage design.

While the original Thar was a utilitarian workhorse, the second generation launched in 2020 transformed the brand into a more modern lifestyle vehicle. The brand remains entirely owned by the Mahindra Group, one of India's largest multinational conglomerates. Production is centralized in India, specifically at Mahindra's manufacturing facilities in Nashik and Chakan, Maharashtra. The Thar continues to represent Mahindra’s deep roots in off-road engineering while evolving for global automotive standards.
