Hamdard is a legendary brand with a rich history rooted in the Unani system of medicine. Founded in 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed in Old Delhi, India, it began as a small herbal clinic. After the partition of the Indian subcontinent, the brand evolved into independent entities operating in India, Pakistan, and later Bangladesh. The most iconic product, Rooh Afza, was formulated in 1907 as a cooling herbal drink and has since become a global household name.

Today, Hamdard operates as a waqf (non-profit trust), meaning a significant portion of its profits is channeled back into charitable activities, healthcare, and education. While the brand is synonymous with its rose-flavored syrup, it also produces over 450 herbal and classical Unani medicines. Manufacturing primarily takes place in its respective home countries—India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh—to serve both local and international markets.

Ownership is unique because of its trust structure. Hamdard Laboratories (India) is governed by the Hamdard National Foundation. It remains a rare example of a legacy brand that has maintained its traditional roots while expanding its presence to over 25 countries, continuing its mission of providing affordable healthcare and wellness products based on natural ingredients.
