The brand was originally founded in 1947 in Bradenton, Florida, by Anthony T. Rossi, who pioneered flash pasteurization to allow for the transport of fresh-tasting orange juice over long distances.

Starting in early 2022, the brand underwent a significant ownership shift when PepsiCo sold a majority stake in its juice portfolio to PAI Partners, a private equity firm. This resulted in the creation of Tropicana Brands Group. While PepsiCo retains a 39% non-controlling interest and exclusive distribution rights in many regions, the ultimate strategic ownership and direction of the brand now reside with Tropicana Brands Group, which is headquartered in Chicago. Manufacturing occurs in various regional facilities across Europe and North America to ensure product freshness for local markets.
